Job Purpose and Summary
The Staff Pharmacist is responsible for supporting the management, oversight, and operation of all aspects of the pharmacy. This includes assisting the Pharmacy Manager, ensuring safe and accurate dispensing, providing clinical care, and maintaining compliance with federal and state regulations. Staff Pharmacists act as role models for pharmacy teams and contribute to positive patient experiences.
Key Responsibilities
- Support patient health through safe and appropriate dispensing, counseling, and immunizing practices.
- Act as proxy for the Pharmacy Manager during bench shifts, including oversight of pharmacy team performance.
- Assume Pharmacy Manager duties when serving as the only or primary pharmacist-on-duty.
- Ensure prescription fulfillment follows workflow procedures and safety guardrails.
- Contribute to positive patient experiences and coach team members on compassionate care.
- Offer and deliver immunizations; support pharmacy technicians in learning immunization procedures.
- Manage pharmacy inventory according to best practices, with attention to cold chain products.
- Ensure pharmacy operations comply with Board of Pharmacy regulations and company policies.
- Remain flexible to meet scheduling and business needs while supporting a safe, inclusive team environment.
- Maintain clinical and technical skills, including completing required trainings and CMEs.
- Support clinical services such as COVID/Flu testing and prescribing services where permissible.
- Understand and comply with federal/state laws, professional standards, and ethical principles.
Required Qualifications
- Active Pharmacist License in the state where the store is located.
- Active National Provider Identifier (NPI).
- Not listed on the DEA Excluded Parties list.
Preferred Qualifications
- 1–2 years of pharmacy, retail, medical, or customer service experience.
- Flexibility to work across multiple locations as needed.
Essential Functions
- Regular attendance, including nights and weekends.
- Ability to complete required training on time.
- Concentration and focus to perform tasks accurately.
- Ability to pivot quickly between tasks to meet patient and business needs.
- Verify prescription information and label accuracy.
- Deliver excellent customer service and demonstrate team orientation.
- Active listening and effective verbal/written communication with patients and colleagues.
- Mathematical reasoning for tasks such as tablet counts, day’s supply calculations, and inventory management.
- Identify challenging situations and determine the best course of action.
- Physical capabilities include lifting, bending, stooping, reaching overhead, standing for long periods, and exerting up to 20 lbs.
Pay Range
$60.00 – $76.00 per hour, depending on experience, education, geography, and other factors. This position is also eligible for CVS Health bonuses, commissions, or short-term incentive programs.

Work Hours
Full-time, 40 hours per week with predictable scheduling.
