Need Groomer Operator In New Zealand

There’s a special kind of quiet that falls over a ski field after the last chairlift closes. That’s when our work begins. Roundhill is seeking an experienced and self-reliant Snow Groomer Operator to take the helm of our modern fleet, transforming the mountain each night into perfect corduroy and pristine slopes for the next day’s adventures. This is a role for someone who finds satisfaction in precision, operates with careful independence, and wants to be part of a legendary South Island ski field’s backbone.

Company Overview

Roundhill Ski Area, overlooking the stunning Lake Tekapo, prides itself on its friendly vibe, incredible terrain, and a tight-knit team that works hard to create an unforgettable experience. We’re a crew who believe in excellent service, a can-do attitude, and enjoying the incredible environment we work in. As a key member of our operations team, you’ll contribute directly to our reputation for great snow and a welcoming atmosphere.

Key Responsibilities

You will be the guardian of our snow quality, entrusted with the sole-charge operation of our groomers. Your nightly mission includes:

  • Grooming all designated slopes to a high standard, ensuring a superb surface for skiers and riders of all levels.
  • Pushing and redistributing snow as directed by management, particularly following significant snowfall.
  • Collaborating with our terrain park team to shape features and maintain a safe, fun park environment.
  • Performing essential daily maintenance, greasing, and refueling of the PistenBully groomers, reporting any issues immediately.
  • Prioritizing safety above all else: adhering strictly to operating manuals, using pilot vehicles during operational hours, and maintaining a vigilant watch for anyone in need of assistance.
  • Acting as a key team player within Roundhill, assisting other departments as needed to ensure the smooth running of the field.

Qualifications

We need a proven professional who can work autonomously with skill and care.

  • Essential: A minimum of 2 seasons’ prior experience operating modern snow groomers. Experience grooming drag lift lines and load/unload areas is highly regarded.
  • A strong, proven safety-first mindset and the ability to operate heavy machinery responsibly on varied and sometimes challenging terrain.
  • The initiative and reliability to work mainly solo on a night schedule, starting from 4:30 PM daily.
  • Good communication skills to liaise effectively with management and the terrain park team.
  • A mechanical aptitude for performing basic maintenance and servicing to specification.

Benefits and Perks

This role comes with an incredible package that lets you live the ski season to the fullest:

  • An hourly rate of $30 – $32 for a minimum of 30 hours per week.
  • Free, slope-side mountain accommodation in a two-bedroom house shared with our Snow Safety Officer.
  • A full staff season pass for Roundhill and discounted access at most other NZ ski areas.
  • Subsidised shared accommodation in Lake Tekapo Village is also available if preferred, with transport provided to and from the mountain.
  • Free access to the Tekapo Springs hot pools and a daily complimentary barista-made coffee plus cafe discounts.
  • The unique opportunity to be an essential part of a small, iconic ski field team in a breathtaking location.
