Alamos Gold is looking for a certified Red Seal Welder to join the maintenance team at our expanding Island Gold District in northern Ontario. This is a pivotal role for a skilled professional who is ready to apply their expertise to maintain and repair critical mobile fleet assets, ensuring safety and supporting the long-term production goals of one of Canada’s premier gold mining operations.

Key Responsibilities

Reporting to the Maintenance Supervisor, you will be a key contributor to the reliability of our mobile equipment fleet. Your primary duties will include:

  • Safely performing high-quality welding, fusing, and cutting operations using prescribed techniques (SMAW, GMAW, FCAW, GTAW) on heavy equipment.
  • Reading and interpreting engineering drawings, procedures, and prints to diagnose issues, layout work, and calculate material requirements.
  • Conducting detailed inspections, diagnosing faults, and performing repairs and maintenance on key mobile equipment including shovel/loader buckets, dozer blades, excavators, and rock truck bodies.
  • Adhering to all CWB codes, quality standards, and strict health, safety, and environmental protocols.
  • Collaborating effectively with other tradespeople, departments, and contractors to provide innovative maintenance solutions.
  • Supporting broader maintenance initiatives and performing other duties as assigned to ensure operational continuity.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate is a certified, experienced welder familiar with a heavy industrial or mining environment.

  • Mandatory: Valid Interprovincial Red Seal Welder certification and a valid Ontarian driver’s licence.
  • Proven experience in the maintenance and repair of heavy mobile mining equipment (e.g., shovels, loaders, haul trucks, dozers).
  • Proficiency in various welding processes (CWB, SMAW, GMAW, FCAW, GTAW preferred).
  • Ability to read engineering drawings and understand CWB requirements for modifications.
  • Strong diagnostic skills to recognize defective welds, determine root cause, and execute proper repairs.
  • Solid working knowledge of welding codes, standards, and relevant mathematical calculations.
  • Familiarity with the work of other affiliated trades is an asset.
  • Must be physically fit for demanding work, capable of standing for long periods, lifting heavy objects, and performing repetitive tasks.
