Mackay Regional Council is seeking a dedicated Street Sweeper to join our Civil Operations Team. This is a hands-on role where you’ll operate essential plant equipment and trucks, playing a key part in the upkeep and construction of our roads and drainage systems. About the Role

Based at our Paget Depot, you will be an integral member of the Drainage Works Crew. Your primary focus will be street sweeping operations, with additional responsibilities in labouring, plant operation, and supporting road maintenance projects. This is a permanent, full-time position offering a secure career path, professional development, and a roster designed for balance, including a 9-day fortnight.

Your Key Responsibilities

Your work will directly contribute to the safety and appearance of our region’s infrastructure.

  • Perform thorough street sweeping operations across the Mackay region.
  • Assist with a variety of civil construction and maintenance tasks, including earthworks, concrete works, pipelaying, bitumen repairs, and vegetation management.
  • Safely operate and maintain plant equipment and trucks as required for road and drainage projects.
  • Conduct daily pre-start checks on vehicles and equipment, reporting any faults or maintenance needs.
  • Work under the direction of a Supervisor or Leading Hand, collaborating effectively with team members and mechanical service personnel.
  • Ensure all work is completed to a high standard, meeting both internal and external client expectations.
  • Adhere to all workplace health, safety, and environmental procedures.

Essential Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will need the following:

  • A valid General Construction Safety “White” Card.
  • A current QLD Heavy Rigid (HR) Class Driver’s Licence (or equivalent interstate licence).
  • Proven experience operating tandem axle trucks in various road and site conditions.
  • Experience in the construction and or maintenance of roads and drainage infrastructure.
  • Proficiency in operating rigid trucks (up to 15t and over 15t GVM) and truck Trailer combinations (up to 42.5t GCM).
  • A strong commitment to safety, quality workmanship, and teamwork.
  • The ability to work on a rotating roster, which includes some early starts.
