Key Responsibilities
- Assist in all aspects of laundry services, from collecting and sorting soiled linen to washing, drying, folding, and distributing clean laundry and clothing throughout the facility.
- Weigh and record soiled linen before sorting, following established procedures to maintain accurate records.
- Operate all washing and drying equipment safely and efficiently, performing routine checks and reporting any issues.
- Perform titration and pH checks as required to ensure proper chemical balances and cleaning effectiveness.
- Clean and process laundry and linen strictly in accordance with established standards, procedures, and infection control guidelines.
- Support general cleaning duties across the facility, including washing, mopping, waxing, vacuuming, polishing, and dusting using appropriate equipment and products.
- Collect waste and wash waste receptacles, maintaining a clean and sanitary environment throughout.
- Assist with loading and unloading equipment, transport carts, and trucks associated with Environmental Services operations.
- Conduct daily tours of your assigned areas before the end of your shift, inspecting each space for cleanliness and addressing any issues.
- Ensure all cleaning and laundry equipment is clean, well-maintained, and operating efficiently.
- Restock supplies in all areas as assigned, helping to keep inventory levels where they need to be.
- Assist with inventory procedures and may be asked to make minor repairs to laundry and linen when needed.
- Help with the training and orientation of new Environmental Services staff and students, sharing your knowledge and experience.
- Follow all departmental procedures to maintain consistency and quality of service throughout the department.
- Take on other duties as assigned, always with a flexible and helpful attitude.
Qualifications
- You have a Grade 9 education (Manitoba Standards) or an equivalent combination of suitable education and experience that prepares you for this role.
- You’re comfortable with technology and have proficiency in Microsoft programs including Outlook, Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint, as well as basic Internet applications.
- You’re organized and can work independently, managing your tasks and priorities within established timeframes and schedules.
- Your communication skills are solid—you can interact respectfully with team members, residents, and families.
- You’re flexible and able to adapt to changes in techniques and procedures as they arise.
- You can exercise independent judgment when needed, making decisions that align with policies and safety standards.
- You understand and respect the importance of confidentiality in a healthcare environment.
- You’re committed to promoting and respecting culturally diverse populations, treating everyone with dignity.
- You’re physically able to perform the duties of the position on a regular basis, including lifting, standing, walking, and operating equipment.
