The Department of Transportation and Infrastructure is seeking a skilled Welder to join the Vehicle Management Agency team at the Chipman Repair Facility. The Department of Transportation and Infrastructure (DTI) is dedicated to maintaining and improving New Brunswick’s public infrastructure, including highways, schools, and hospitals. The Vehicle Management Agency within DTI provides critical fleet management and maintenance services. Our team of tradespeople is essential in keeping the government’s fleet from light vehicles to heavy plow trucks safely on the road to deliver public services.

Key Responsibilities

Reporting to the Mechanic Supervisor, you will be entrusted with key fabrication and repair duties that support our province-wide fleet operations. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Performing various welding, fabrication, and metal cutting tasks to a high standard.
  • Fabricating new components for plow truck assemblies and assembling complete new plow units.
  • Creating inventory items and refurbishing existing fleet components to extend their service life.
  • Repairing and maintaining a wide range of fleet assets, ensuring they meet safety and operational standards.
  • Working a 40-hour week with variable hours, including evenings and weekends as required, with some travel within the province.

Qualifications

You are a certified professional who values quality, safety, and teamwork. The essential requirements are:

  • Possession of a valid F4 welder’s certificate as issued by the Province of New Brunswick.
  • A minimum of three (3) years of related welding and fabrication experience.
  • A valid New Brunswick Class 5 driver’s license.
  • Strong behavioural competencies in Commitment to Learning, Effective Interactive Communication, and Teamwork and Cooperation.
  • Written and spoken competence in English is required.
